Maturity’s Journey
Spiritual Maturity is a Journey
Have you heard the saying, “The Christian life is a marathon, not a sprint.”
I believe this is 100% true. Sprints of 100 yards are very short and last only about 10 seconds. A 26 mile marathon on the other hand takes 3.5 to 7 hours to complete.
Which is the easier race to train for? In my experience it is the marathon and that was only for a 6k!
In our journey toward spiritual maturity we have to pace ourselves, we have to be focused and we have to train hard!
Accepting Our Journey
What can we do in our journey toward maturity? The following is not a comprehensive list, rather they are exercises we can do on a daily basis so that we can become more fully like Jesus.
Basic Training
- Desire God more than anything else (Deut 6:5, Joshua 23:11, Matt. 22:37).
- Step aside and let Jesus guide you (John 3:30).
- Read God’s Word. (Romans 15:4, John 14:23-24, 2 Timothy 3:16-17, Hebrews 4:12).
- Many people protest that the Bible is not true but that line has been used since the beginning of time!
Now the serpent was more crafty than any of the wild animals the LORD God had made. He said to the woman,“Did God really say, ‘You must not eat from any tree in the garden’?” Gen 3:1 TNIV
Satan challenged the truth of God’s Word and lots of people have been doing it ever since. Decide not to fall for this lie!
- Pray (Mark 1:35, Acts 4:31, Acts 16:25).
- Meet with other believers (Acts 20:7, Hebrews 10:24-25).
- Cherish your wife (Eph 5:25-27).
- Serve others (Matt 20:28).
