Chocolate Cake Is Yummy – Sex Is Fun – God Will Provide

A young woman brought her fiancé home to meet her parents. After dinner her father asked the young man into his study for a chat. “So, what are your plans?” he began.

“I’m a theology scholar,” the young man replied.

“Admirable,” the father said, “but what will you do to provide a nice home for my daughter?”

“I will study and God will provide,” he explained.

“And how will you afford to raise children?”

“God will provide.”

The men left the study and the mother asked her husband, “How’d it go?”

“He has no money or employment plans,” the father said. “But on the other hand, he thinks I’m God.”

God Will Provide Is Annoying

I am a missionary to Germany.  One of the reasons I can afford to be a missionary here is because God has provided.  While raising support I kept hearing from people that God will provide.

Why did they say this?  I think they said it for at least one of two reasons.

First they may have said it because it is the correct answer but at the same time they felt that they couldn’t afford to provide for me.

Secondly I honestly believe some said it because they thought God would provide money for us to survive like he provided Manna out of Heaven, miraculously.

Don’t get me wrong, I believe that God can provide however He desires but I believe that most of the time He chooses to provided through people.

So it makes me a little frustrated when people say that God will provide.  They might as well tell me that chocolate cake is yummy or that sex is fun.  These are no brainers.  God will provide and 9.9 times out of 10 He chooses to provide through people.

Will You Provide?

There are some people who can’t believe in God because He appears to be extremely cruel.  At first glance they seem to be correct.  Tons of people die each day because of starvation.  I am 15 pounds too fat and there are people who die because they can’t get enough food!

How come God doesn’t just give food to these starving people?

Because He chooses us to be His hands and feet!  It is not God’s fault that people die from starvation.  If people are going to be fed it is going to be people who do the feeding.

God is not cruel, people are cruel.

Don’t get me wrong.  I think most of the time most of us aren’t plotting evil schemes to destroy innocent hungry people.  I believe that most of the time hungry people don’t even come to mind.

We are too busy trying to survive in a time consuming technology filled world believing that God will provide.
